+ DECEMBER 5TH UPDATE RE JANUARY WORKSHOPS ON OFFER :
2025 NEWS
THERE'S A GOOD REASON FOR FLEXIBLE JANUARY DATES + PRICING:
This year over summer the artist will be Brisbane-based to enjoy some serious Studio time before taking a holiday after March. Around mid-year 2025 a major relocation an hour north will see the end of an extraordinary era at SeedArtLab in Meemar St Chemside.
The Seed Project which came to life in 2009 will continue to evolve ... albeit in a natural habitat setting not so far from this current urban home in a large City.
So effectively this summer is the key time I can really focus on throwing open the doors of this wonderful space. I will continue to accept commissions and workshop bookings by arrangement beyond summer ... but this is the time when I can really celebrate the space and share the experience enthusiastically.
2024 has thrown up a lot of changes, locally and globally, requiring all of us to think a little harder about how we relate to these shifts, personally & collectively, and the new things being ushered in - sometimes quite abruptly, with little warning.
Keeping Workshops affordable has been on my mind as 2024 winds down ... and offering several kinds of learning experiences so families with children can be included for a midweek morning or afternoon session.
This way you can book a One Day Workshop as easily as a Two Day workshop & know you'll have an invaluable, thought-provoking experience with an established artist, experienced in teaching & making art in a number of Australian cities & regional areas, cross-pollinating over decades with multi-faceted, layered communities, shaping a unique vision which has come to highlight SEED DIVERSITY & BIO-CULTURAL DIVERSITY whilst at the same time honouring the role of curiosity and play in the human journey to make sense of the world.
Please share the links with anyone you think may wish to take part. January is a brilliant time of year to play with new ideas, converse and bounce off the atmosphere of new people linking up for a day or two in an action packed program.
SAYING FAREWELL BUT NOT GOODBYE :
It will be a big thing to leave this Studio that has seen so many people interact here ... a vessel, a hub, for the project which started life tentatively as a very humble idea with no clues it would grow to become something of substance to disperse out into the world - bringing amazing opportunities, connections & learning. Continually deepening the project whilst aiming to sustain energy and focus despite family challenges, medical disruptions and simply growing older makes one really appreciate all that has take place up to this moment.
For those who enjoy viewing art, conversing and reconnecting, and foraging through some fabulous Art Sale items, OPEN STUDIO visits started in NOVEMBER 2024 with a series of THREE WEEKENDS and are now continuing over summer by appointment - just text the artist [m: 0430599344] to check available dates & times!
A FEW NOTES:
SeedArtLab studio classes are available for up to 6 participants ... there's a refreshing intimacy and proximity to the ongoing art practice, artworks, seed collections, books etc when undertaking a studio workshop that is utterly unique and memorable.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Munns’ practice is featured as a case study in the Cambridge textbook for Year 11 and 12 General Visual Art, Creative Inquiry: Visual Art for Queensland Senior Secondary Students, within Unit 1: Art as Lens. Her practice is a powerful illustration of how to use research and experimental creative processes to self-generate an inquiry question and create a significant body of work exploring ideas around biodiversity (specifically, seeds and seed diversity), through the lens of artistic practice.
“Seeds are a fascinating way to track the story of people interacting with places over millennia...” – Sophie Munns
About Sophie Munns
Sophie Munns is a life-long creative who effectively pioneered ways of sustaining a solo art practice as a female artist outside of the more traditional art career pathways, slowly but surely gaining a following for her now influential practice, reaching and engaging audiences around the globe. Munns is based in South-East Queensland, working from her studio, SeedArtLAB.
An experienced artist and researcher, she has undertaken local and international projects and residencies, worked as a sessional academic tutor, and is a qualified secondary teacher with extensive experience facilitating workshops for artists, teachers and students. Her inclusion in the Cambridge textbook for Year 11 and 12 General Visual Art, Creative Inquiry: Visual Art for Queensland Senior Secondary Students, reflects the value that she provides to teachers and students in exploring and understanding the diversity of contemporary art practice.
