'Seed Diversity : across time and place'

$95.00 - $255.00

The original 40 cm square artwork was purchased by QATA as a prize offered to attendees at the Queensland Art Teachers Conference in Brisbane, on Saturday July 16, 2021.

This original work, a watercolour & ink work on paper titled ‘Seed diversity: across time and place’ was framed by Nobel Framing in Highgate Hill, as was a small limited edition print of the same artwork for the QATA conference. See Image 3!

An interesting story ... this particular painting actually started life as one of a series of 7 artworks commissioned by the Crop Trust in Bonn, Germany in 2017. However, after a few days working on this piece the composition didn't feel right so it was put to the side & a brand new yet quite similar work started which you can view in Image 5, on the left, here.

All the works created for the Crop Trust were 40 cm square, then on completion, scanned professionally so the files could be sent to Germany ready to be printed on glass and a few weeks later presented as the Legacy Awards at 10 year celebrations of the Opening of the Global Seed Vault in Svalbard in the Arctic Circle, Norway.

One of the Seed Diversity Awards was given to Cary Fowler, the US scientist who was the primary instigator of the Global Seed Vault working with the Norwegian Govt to bring it to reality for a 2008 opening. Another award with this same artwork shown in image 5 was given to the Crop Trust's London-based Patron, Prince Charles, at a Celebratory event held at Clarence House February 2018.

So it was 4 years later, when visited by QATA executive committee members, Dani Towers & Bethany Loveridge, that this unfinished work was spotted. They soon were convinced it was the right work for them to purchase for the conference, which motivated me to complete the work with fresh eyes, until finally resolved!
