The only remaining work now from a large series painted in 2014-2016
using Art Spectrum pastel primer … both the colours & textures felt so right for this series of slowly painted works on linen and watercolour paper.
I just checked it didn’t have a title on the back that differed from the one in my records… that happens. I called it ‘dusty seeds from a dusty land’ in part because of the chalkiness of the paint + that the landscapes of seeds I was thinking of were dry regions of Australia were colours can be very dry and washed out looking. Beautiful in a very different way to the subtropics we’re I grew up & now live.
I’ve decided I’ll post it up at my ONLINE STORE later today as I prepare to let go of some things I’ve adored living with to make space for the new ♾️
Back when I was on a constant move between residencies and diverse undertakings, researching, photographing, trying to keep up, a meditative series like this marking the seeds being explored in SeedLabs, seedbanks and environments felt as if I was individually counting each precious one.
When oversaturated with stimulation this meditation felt utterly grounding & yet it also took me back to moments working alongside scientists watching them literally count out seeds in groups of 50 whilst processing their work. I saw that many times over years visiting SeedLabs.
Counting seeds generated titles for numbers of my works from early 2010 at Mt Coot-tha. Not a token title but based on patient work that comes with age old seed practices.
