This 'Seeds through an Artist's Lens' WEEKEND WORKSHOP is being held in conjunction with the artist's exhibition SEED LANGUAGE at QACI.


WHEN: SATURDAY June 2 & SUNDAY 3, 2018

TIME: Arrive from 9.30am for a start at 10am sharp through to 4 to 4.30pm.

NB: Saturday parking is affected by the adjacent Kelvin Grove Saturday Morning market however it's an excellent place to pick up coffee + great food! Allow time!
Tea & Biscuits will be available during the workshop. Do BYO lunch + snacks.

WHERE: Queensland Academies Creative Industries in Kelvin Grove Urban Precinct, Brisbane.

COST: $250 for two days includes all art materials [+ list of things to bring below].

Whether you are a highly experienced visual artist keen to think more about the extraordinary world of seeds or in fact quite new to Art-making you'll be offered a highly stimulating, comprehensive way into exploring a fascinating diversity of Seed material, rich visual processes & ideas that celebrate seeds in both their biological diversity & potency as a symbol throughout the ages.

Bring along several examples of native Seeds & pods from your local area if you enjoy collecting with a few things you might have at home worth bringing are noted below..

A table full of mixed media supplies with an extensive range of papers will be put to purposeful use in a program of lively exercises designed to guide & prompt wide-ranging experimentation both mornings. Afternoon sessions will allow time for slowing down to focus on the making of artist books, implementing processes discovered and most enjoyed during busy morning sessions.

In no time you'll be immersed & interpreting the world of seeds with ease.


+ Journal / visual diary - already in use is fine.
+ smartphone/digital camera is a necessity.
+ small scissors, glue, sticky tape, pencil - ONLY IF you want your own on hand.
+ artline pens are great for journal notes & quick drawings.
+ seeds /pods if you are a collector.
+ Handy to BYO newspaper, paint tray (like recycled polystyrene) & plastic, tin or glass water container
+ IF you wish to add a textile element ... stitching needles, natural thread, natural weave fabric samples like linen, calico & muslin.
+ a favourite mixed media item - inks, coloured pencils, watercolours
+ Off-cuts of good quality paper if you want to use for collage/extra Concertina book

REMEMBER art materials are supplied ... no need to bring much from home...the list is simply a suggestion of things it might suit you to have with you.

NB: You will be introduced to using Art Spectrum WHITE pigmented ink & rigger brushes (size 2) for the artist books ... if you already have these things or want to bring your own find at the Art Shed in West End. A rigger brush, about $4, is ideal with ink.

In this workshop you'll be gaining various perspectives on the world of Seeds, Conservation & Science. The program is set up as a relaxed and enjoyable series of sessions run over the 2 days ... offering glimpses of fresh ways to work with the unique world of seeds. The artist encourages you to find your own way to reflect further on the land where you live & the Seed material waiting there to discover up close, in your own time, through drawing & painting.
