ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Munns’ practice is featured as a case study in the Cambridge textbook for Year 11 and 12 General Visual Art, Creative Inquiry: Visual Art for Queensland Senior Secondary Students, within Unit 1: Art as Lens. Her practice is a powerful illustration of how to use research and experimental creative processes to self-generate an inquiry question and create a significant body of work exploring ideas around biodiversity (specifically, seeds and seed diversity), through the lens of artistic practice.
“Seeds are a fascinating way to track the story of people interacting with places over millenia...” – Sophie Munns
About Sophie Munns
Sophie Munns is a life-long creative who effectively pioneered ways of sustaining a solo art practice as a female artist outside of the more traditional art career pathways, slowly but surely gaining a following for her now influential practice, reaching and engaging audiences around the globe. Munns is based in South-East Queensland, working from her studio, SeedArtLAB.
An experienced artist and researcher, she has undertaken local and international projects and residencies, worked as a sessional academic tutor, and is a qualified secondary teacher with extensive experience facilitating workshops for artists, teachers and students. Her inclusion in the Cambridge textbook for Year 11 and 12 General Visual Art, Creative Inquiry: Visual Art for Queensland Senior Secondary Students, reflects the value that she provides to teachers and students in exploring and understanding the diversity of contemporary art practice.
